Palm Beach Gardens was announced into existence on March 20, 1959, when insurance magnate John D. MacArthur unveiled plans for a garden city of 55,000 on roughly 4,000 acres of pine flatwoods north of West Palm Beach. Moving to Palm Beach Gardens: east vs west

Compared with living in West Palm Beach, twelve miles south, Palm Beach Gardens trades urban energy for space, gates, and tree canopy; against Boca Raton or Delray Beach further down the coast, it offers a similar country-club formula with a quieter, newer, more northern orientation.
